LGBTについての三宅洋平の言葉（英訳版）

先ほど八王子の方でちょっと喋りそこねたことがあったんで、
じゃあここで言おうかなと思ってます。
There’s something I meant to say in Hachioji (previous Election Fest location), but I’ll mention it here.
三宅洋平、実は訴えがいっぱいありすぎて
毎回３０分、４０分の演説の中に入れきれてないことがたくさんあります。
There are countless topics I want to cover in my speeches, and every time I speak for 30 or 40 minutes, so many things end up left out.
で、終わってからいろんな方から
「あれも言ってください、これも言ってください」
という声を頂くんです。
Many people ask me afterwards “could you please reference this?” or “can you say this too?”
で、今日はですね、何人か支持者の方から
「実は私、ゲイなんです」そういう声を頂いてます。
で、そこもやっぱ言ってほしい、と。
And today, a few supporters came to tell me “I’m gay, actually” and that they’d appreciate me speaking in regards to the issues they face.
で、僕は実は、まぁ音楽の世界って結構自由な人が多いので、ミュージシャン同士ってそうことを気軽に昔から若い頃から言い合っていける仲のヤツが多くてですね、実は僕は犬式というバンド、それからアルバトラスというバンドをやってますが、ジャズ界を代表するサックスプレーヤー、元晴（もとはる）というのが、長年僕と一緒に活動してます。
Many of us in the music scene are usually quite free-minded, and as fellow musicians we’ve talked about these matters openly from way back, since we were young. I’ve been active in bands like Inushiki, and recently with ALBATRUS, and I’m proud to say that I’ve worked with one of the leading saxophone players in the jazz scene, Motoharu, for many years.
で、彼はいち早く、まぁ元々はボストンで音楽を学んで帰ってきたんですけれども、自分は正々堂々と「自分がゲイである」ということを公表しながら活動していきたいんだ、っていう相談をハタチぐらいの時に受けました。「カミングアウトするのは洋平が最初なんだよ」って言われた。１７年前の、恵比寿でみんなで新年会をしたんですけど、Soil & Pimp Sessionsのメンバーと。その時に初めて彼に打ち明けられた時に、まぁなんか全然驚かなかった自分もいましたし。
He had returned from studying music in Boston, and told me when I was 20 or so, about his wishes of pursuing his music career while being out and open, without shame. He told me “Yohei, you’re the first person I’ve ‘come out’ to.” That was 17 years ago, at a New Year’s gathering in Ebisu along with the members of Soil & Pimp Sessions. And to me, it wasn't at all a surprising incident when he told me this.
で、僕はレゲエという音楽を基調にやってきたんで、レゲエの世界では実は「バティマン」という言葉がありまして、ジャマイカではゲイの人というのはすごく差別をされている、そういう文化的背景があります。で、レゲエ文化の中でも、そういう「バティマン」を罵倒する歌、というのがたくさんあったりするんですね。だから、レゲエをやってる僕っていうのに対して「洋平さん、そこはどうなんですか？」っていう声を頂くんですけれども、「いや、それは安心してくれよ」と。So I’ve played music with reggae at its basis, and within reggae, there is this word “butty man.” In Jamaica, gay people are severely discriminated against. That’s the cultural context that reggae music exists in. And there are many songs that brutally attack these so-called “butty man” within the reggae culture. So I am asked, as a reggae artist, “Yohei, where do you stand on that?” I tell them, “Hey, you have nothing to worry about.”
俺はバンドメンバーもゲイだし、
それについてむしろ一緒に、共に立って伝えてきたつもりなんです、
LGBTの問題。
I have gay band members, and in fact I have stood up alongside them to spread the word regarding LGBT issues.
それは僕が今回掲げる「みんなが自分らしくあれる社会」
ということを達成するためにも、やはり、価値観を大きく開いていきましょう。
We must expand our perception of values in order to achieve this vision of “a society where everybody can be who they want to be,” which is what I strive to actualize.
で、そのことというのは、男性の権利、女性の権利、あるいは、まぁ、僕はいろんな言い方あると思うんですけど、ゲイとかレズビアンの方の権利、
そしてそういうお互いの自由を咎め合わない社会、っていうのを創っていきたいです。
And, with that said, I wish for us to build a society where rights of men and women—and there are a lot of names used—gays and lesbians are respected, and where we don’t have to impede each other’s freedom.
政治は、論理とか政策のみならず、心の問題を解決していくのも政治の仕事だと思います。ぜひ、みなさん、自分が生きやすい社会をつくるためにも、いろんな価値観に触れて、受け入れて、生きて行こうじゃありませんか。よろしくおねがいします。そういったことも主張していきたいです。
I believe that politics must address the issues of the heart and the mind, in addition to dealing with logic and policies. So everyone, for the sake of creating a society where you can live at ease, please engage and experience a multitude of value systems, so that we can live in coexistence. I plan to advocate for these causes as well.
