Today, I interviewed Fukushima Livestock Division about the killing of "abandoned livestock" in the exclusion zone by their Livestock Health Department.

I added a report of the actual killing that was witnessed.

Former Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, directed the killing of livestock in the exclusion zone on 12 May 11, and Fukushima prefecture has been operating the killing at the direction of the government.

In the past couple of months, there has been a increase of complaints saying the livestocks are vandalising their homes by the residents who temporarily returned home in the exclusion zone. There are operation groups that deal with cattle and dairy cows.

It takes 10 to 15 minutes to die from the first injection, .

Presently, they build 6,7 iron enclosures which are 10m to 20m long in the area, and place compound food, mineral salts, water and Miso as baits.

In the morning, cows come in and start eating.

As soon as there are few cows in the enclosure, they close the gate.

There was nothing for the cows to eat. One of the complaints was about cows eating their Miso. That is why they used Miso. (What is so wrong about them eating Miso? Couldn't they forgive?)

5 to 10 staff from the Livestock Health Department operate this the killing.

The cows in the fence approach humans friendlily who are going to kill them, even humans abandoned and tormented them for over half a year.

The staff put bridles (rope from nose ring to head)on them to make it easier to control the cattle.

● They apply intramuscular sedative injection and Selactar (muscle-relaxant drug) on their shoulder or hips. Some cows stop moving at this stage, but they add more on the cows which are still moving.

● Then they add anaesthetic and Pentobarbital.

The witness said that the cows were injected anaesthetic and Penbarbital through catheter (venous perhaps) in the neck. While administered the staff were shouting watching the meter "40, 30, 20,..".

Even large cows collapse within 3 minutes. Painful, straining Cry of the cows will last for a while. They are

asleep completely at this stage.

● Muscle relaxant and Suxamethonium are injected to kill.

Female cows weigh 500kg, the big bull weigh nearly 1 ton, cattles are 700kg to 800kg.

They determine the quantity of drugs depending on individual size.

A member of staff turn their eye lid to check death. If there still is a biological reaction, they apply fourth injection.

After 10 to 15 minutes, animals are dead.

There is no need to tie the front legs, and sometimes they do if they feel it is dangerous.

They move the corpses with excavators, then load them onto the cargo bed on lorries.

Then the bodies were thrown into a hole which were dug in advance,.

This is the end of lives of the cows which were born and grew in the exclusion zone.

In order to repeat this tragic situation, RJAV networks are working on arranging legislation for simultaneous evacuation of humans and animals on arrival of disasters, and will work on local governments to ensure initial operations at disasters.
