He is going to visit Japan from 22-25 of August. And planning to visit Sendai City, a disaster striken area on 23.
I sent a message to him asking for help for Fukushima animals and farmers.
Asked if he could encourage the Japanese government to do the right thing.
Asked if he could persuede the Prime Minister Kan.

Please HELP for the animals and farmers in Fukushima!
Originally a 20 kilometer radius around the nuclear plant was designated as an evacuation area. At first, the residents were told to "Evacuate immediately, but you will be able to come back here within a few days", so they left behind everything including their pets (they were told pets were not allowed in the shelters). However, after a month they were told by their government that their "home town" was now officially off-limits and they are not allowed to go back to their homes to get their belongings or pets. Rescue groups and volunteers are also not allowed to go there to even feed them.
Among the animals that were left in this area, a great many are dead from starvation. Cats that are stuck inside the house are so starved they even eat each other. These scenes are literally hell on earth. It is very cruel and inhumane condition. Although many rescue groups saved many lives (before the area became off-limits), hundreds and thousands of them had already died. And many of them are still in the area with no food, no water.
The government has finally started rescuing (mainly cats and dogs) with help from vets and volunteers from this July. However, we have no time! We demand a permission for entering the No-go-zone to rescue!
On the other hand, the government announced that they would euthanize ALL the farm animals inside of the No-go-zone after getting the owners’ agreements. Some of the Diet members such as Tsutomu Takamura, and a Veterinarian, Dr. Shigeki Imamoto proposed that the government should establish a farm for these farm animals and letting them live there so we can observe them for the influence of radiation. Although the government has agreed to consider this option, they are still killing the farm animals.
Now, an "Animal Protection Volunteer Project"(temporary name) has started through the Diet member, Tsutomu Takamura and fellow members’ good offices. “M Farm” which is in No-go-zone was selected as a model farm. We demand the government to stop killing farm animals immediately and to transport them to the farm!
Both possibility of hydrogen explosion and radiation level in the area are decreasing. Even residents live in 3km radius from the plant is now permitted to return temporarily. Radiation level of the animals in the area is mostly quite low so that there is no need to decontaminate.
I beg you to please encourage Japanese government to do the right thing. Please persuade the Prime Minister Kan.

どうか、福島の動物たちと農家を助けてください。
福島原発から半径20km圏内が避難区域に設定されたとき、住民たちは「すぐに避難してください。２～３日で帰れます」と言われたので、ペットを含め全てを置いて避難しました（ペットは避難所への同伴を許可されませんでした）。しかし一か月後、正式に警戒区域に設定され立入禁止となり、持ち物を取ったり、動物たちを迎えに行くため、家に帰ることができなくなりました。保護団体やボランティアも、給餌のための立ち入りさえ許可されません。
区域に取り残された動物たちは…おびただしい数の動物たちか餓死。室内に閉じ込められた猫は、空腹のあまり共食いをして果てたものもいます。まさにこの世の地獄です。非常に残酷で非人道的な行為です。
たくさんの保護団体が、立入り禁止になる前に多くの命を救いました。しかし、何千、何万という動物たちの命が失われました。そしていまだ多くの動物たちが、餌も水もなく取り残されています。
政府は七月から、ようやくボランティアも受け入れての犬・猫の捕獲プロジェクトを開始しました。しかし一刻の猶予もありません。政府には、保護のための立入りを許可するよう求めます。
一方で、政府は、警戒区域内の全ての家畜を、所有者の同意のうえ殺処分すると発表しました。これを受け高邑勉議員、今本成樹獣医師らは、家畜を一定の場所に集めて牧場を創設し、放射線の影響を観察するための対象として生かすことができないか、提案しました。これに対し、政府は「検討する」と発言したにもかかわらず、家畜の殺処分は続いています。いま、高邑議員や同志の尽力により「希望の牧場～ふくしま～プロジェクト」が始まっています。警戒区域内にある「エム牧場」がモデルとして選定されました。私たちは、家畜の全頭殺処分を即時中止し、「希望の牧場」への移送を求めます！
水素爆発の可能性や周辺の放射線レベルも下がってきており、原発から３km圏内の住民の一時帰宅も認められました。また、圏内の動物たちの放射線レベルも、ほとんどは除染が必要ないほど低い値です。
どうか、日本政府に正しい行動を取るよう促してください。菅総理を説得していただくようお願いいたします。
