毎年７月４日が近くなると、「今年はどこで花火を見る？」というのが話題に出るけれど、
今年はバッテリパークに住む友人からお誘いいただき、ハドソンリバー側のショーを堪能した。
今年2026年は、1876年に米国がイギリスからの独立宣言をして250年という大きな節目の年。
当日を迎える前から、メディアは大騒ぎ。
特にニューヨークでは、朝からの航空ショー、夜は恒例のMacy’s 主催の８万発の花火。
一方で、連日40度近い熱波の影響で、全米各地でパレード中止のニュースが相次いだ。
ミレニアム（2000年）のカウントダウンを見た時に、今世紀最大の経験だと感じた。
そして、まさかその四半世紀後にまだ自分がニューヨークにいるとは思っていなかった。
しかし、確実に時間は過ぎて、私自身の歴史が紡がれてきたのかと思うと、感慨深かった。
米国250歳の誕生日に、アメリカ国民は何を想っていたのだろう。
Every year as July 4th approaches, the topic of “Where should we watch the fireworks this year?” comes up.
This year, a friend who lives in Battery Park invited us, and we got to enjoy the show on the Hudson River side.
This year, 2026, marked a major milestone: the 250th anniversary of the United States’ Declaration of Independence from Great Britain in 1876.
Even before the big day arrived, the media was in a frenzy.
In New York, in particular, there was an air show starting in the morning, followed by the annual Macy’s fireworks display featuring 80,000 fireworks at night.
Meanwhile, due to a heat wave with temperatures nearing 40 degrees day after day, news of parade cancellations came in one after another across the United States.
When I watched the Millennium (2000) countdown, I felt it was the greatest experience of this century.
And I never imagined that a quarter-century later, I’d still be in New York.
But as I reflected on how time has certainly passed and my own history has been woven, I was deeply moved.
I wonder what the American people were thinking on the United States’ 250th birthday.
